Directly observed, tamper-resistant collection that detects very recent drug use within 24β48 hours. Now DOT approved under 49 CFR Part 40. Ideal for post-accident and reasonable suspicion testing.
Oral fluid (saliva) testing is a directly observed collection method that is extremely difficult to defeat or adulterate. The collector observes the entire collection process, eliminating the possibility of substitution or tampering. Oral fluid testing detects recent drug use within approximately 24β48 hours β making it particularly effective for post-accident and reasonable suspicion testing scenarios. The FDA approved oral fluid testing for DOT-regulated programs in 2023.
Driver's license, state ID, or passport. Required for all collections.
If employer-referred or court-ordered, bring your authorization form.
Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum for at least 10 minutes before your appointment. This ensures an adequate specimen.
Have your current prescriptions ready in case of a non-negative result requiring MRO review.
After ID verification, the collector inspects your mouth and asks you to remove any foreign objects. This ensures a valid specimen.
A collection device is placed in your mouth (between the cheek and lower gum) for approximately 10 minutes until an adequate saliva sample is collected. The collector observes the entire process.
The collection device is placed in a tamper-evident container and sealed with chain of custody documentation completed in your presence.
Your specimen is shipped to our SAMHSA-certified laboratory for analysis. Non-negative results undergo GC/MS confirmation testing.
Results available within 24β72 hours via secure portal. Negative results often faster. Non-negatives require MRO review before reporting.
Because the collector can see the collection device in your mouth throughout the process, substitution and adulteration are essentially impossible β making oral fluid one of the most tamper-resistant testing methods available.
